Amrita Rao was born in Pune, Maharashtra. She has not yet revealed her birthday date and year. She belongs to a Hindu Brahmin family. For her primary education, she joined Canossa Convent Girls School, Mumbai. This school has stringent rules and regulations.

Amrita did her further studies in Mumbai only. She was admitted to Sophia College, Mumbai, for completing her graduation. She chose Psychology subject for her graduation. But she was more inclined toward acting and modelling. During her college days, she used to do modelling with her sister. She began her career with modelling. She walked the ramp for many big fashion shows. Then she got to work for a TV commercial for Fairever Face creme. This was a big break for her. Other TV commercials like Closeup, Godrej No 1, Jolen Creme Bleach, Fenna detergent, Anne French etc featured her.

Her debut film in the Bollywood industry was “Ab Ke Baras” in 2002, along with Arya Babbar. After this, she never looked back. Again in 2006, she gave a blockbuster hit movie named “Vivah”. In this movie, she played the role of “Poonam”, paired opposite Shahid Kapoor.

She made her debut in the Telugu industry with the film – “Athidhi” in 2007. Then in 2009, she got a chance to judge a reality show on Star Plus named – “Perfect Bride”.She also worked in a TV serial name “Meri Awaj Hi Pehnchan Hai”.

Amrita belongs to a very conservative family and traditional Hindu family. Her father’s name is Deepak Rao. He works in an advertising agency in Mumbai. Her mother’s name is Kanchan Rao.

She married her long term boyfriend, Anmol. They dated for seven years. Anmol is a Radio jockey by profession. The couple tied the knot on 15 May 2016 in Mumbai. She has revealed that she got married in a secret wedding in 2014. In November 2020, the couple was blessed with a baby boy. In March 2021, RJ Anmol shared a precious picture with his fans on Twitter. They named their son “Veer”.
