Glenn was born on 14 October 1988 in Kew, Victoria, Australia. He comes from a family of cricket enthusiasts. His parents, Joy and Neil Maxwell, were athletes too. He has two cricket-playing brothers, Ben and Daniel.

Glenn Maxwell studied at Mention Secondary School, where he completed his schooling in Victoria, Australia. He attended college in Melbourne.

His Cricket Career

Originally, he started as a fast bowler in cricket. Maxwell’s cricket career took off when he joined the Victorian team in 2010 and performed exceptionally well in the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes competition. He was named Player of the competition when Australia won the title for the first time.

In 2010, he was determined to participate in the Emerging Players Tournament, where he made a mark by scoring a quick 59 runs off 23 balls against India. He followed this with an impressive 110 runs off 52 balls against South Africa and scored 63 against India in the semi-final. In another match against Queens, he scored 61 and 38, achieving his highest scores of the innings.

T-Twenty Cricket

Maxwell has played in Twenty20 cricket franchise leagues in Australia, India and England. In 2012, he played for Delhi Daredevils before being bought in the 2013 IPL auction by Mumbai Indians and then Kings XI Punjab where he played exceptionally well.

In 2021, he was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore after another in the auction, this time with the Chennai Super Kings and finished the season as the team’s highest scorer, with 513 runs.

Maxwell has also played for Hampshire, Surrey, Yorkshire,  Warwickshire and Lancashire County Cricket Clubs in the T20 Blast and for London Spirit in the 2022 season of The Hundred.

International Matches

Maxwell was selected for Australia’s series against Pakistan in the UAE in 2012 for being an all-rounder and wonderful fieldsman. He made his debut against Afghanistan in the one-off One Day International (ODI).

Maxwell made his Test debut against India in the second Test at Hyderabad as the team’s second spinner. He was dropped from the team for the third Test as Australia opted for more specialist bowlers. Later, he was brought back for the fourth and final Test in Delhi, replacing injured batsman Michael Clarke. 

In 2015 ICC World Cup, he broke the records for the “fastest ODI century by an Australian” and the “second-fastest century in World Cup history”.

Maxwell made history in a test match against India in 2017 by being the second batsman from Australia to register hundreds in all three forms of the game. He joined a limited group of cricket players who had accomplished this feat in their careers.

After dating each other, they got married on 27 March 2022 as per Christian and traditional Tamil Brahmin weddings.

On September 11, 2023, they gave birth to their son Logan Maverick Maxwell.
