Jonathan Daviss is an American actor best known for his role as Pope in the Netflix series Outer Banks, which premiered in 2020. Jonathan is a native of Conroe, Texas, who later relocated to Los Angeles, California, to pursue an acting career. He began his career as a sales representative for an insurance business. With the 2013 series Revolution, he went full-time into acting. He landed the role of Pope Heyward in Outer Banks after roles in Deliverance Creek, Shattered Memories, and Age of Summer. Jonathan also supports a number of social concerns, including the Black Lives Matter movement.

Career of Jonathan Daviss

Jonathan Daviss slept on a friend’s couch for days when he first went to Los Angeles to seek a career in the entertainment industry because he was broke. He subsequently went to work as a sales associate at Saks Off 5th while also part-time charging Bird scooters. In the 2013 series Revolution, he made his debut as a child. After that, he played Samuel Washington in the TV movie Deliverance Creek, which aired in 2014. In the 2017 short All the Marbles, he played Young Spike.

In 2018, he appeared in the films Edge of the World, Age of Summer, and Shattered Memories as Jay Tibbs, Mathis, and Teddy.

He also starred as Lavar in the television series Baselines and will appear in the 2020 series Popternative.

However, it was his portrayal of Pope Heyward in the Netflix series Outer Banks in 2020 which made him a household celebrity. On April 15, 2020, the series was released. The producers announced a second season in July 2020, but filming has been halted because to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

Jonathan once expressed his scepticism about being cast as Pope, saying that the part appeared “super-duper nerdy.”According to Jonathan, Pope’s character was purposefully not depicted as a normal black character in order to avoid racial stereotypes. Pope describes himself as a surfer who is “funny and capable of doing unsafe things.”

E. Roger Mitchell, who plays Pope’s father, Heyward, in the series, had a close friendship with Jonathan Daviss.
