With Ruhi Sawant’s name, Rakhi made her entry into the film industry with the 1997 film Agnichakra. She was seen in Bollywood films such as Joru Ka Ghulam, Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hain, and Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke. She also got minor roles in dance sequences.

As per reports, Rakhi Sawant had to audition four times before getting her renowned item number Mohabbat hai Mirchi in Chura Liya Hai Tumne (2003). Later, her dance number from Krazzy 4′ Dekhta hai tu kya’ was released. The dance number broke several records, and the audience began grooving to the steps. Rakhi won the title of dance queen in Bollywood. She featured in films like ‘Mai hoon na,’ 6 teens, Saatchaya Aat Gharat, etc.

Political experience

On 26 March 2014, Rakhi Sawant announced her plans to contest the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Mumbai North-West as an Independent Candidate. On 28 March, she founded the Rashtriya Aam Party (RAP). The party has no symbol assigned by the election commission. The party’s office bearers and fundraisers are local businessmen from Oshiwara.

She received only 15 votes from the Mumbai North-West Constituency and lost her deposit.

Sawant resigned from the Rashtriya Aam Party and joined the RPI (Athavale) party in June 2014 and indicated she was interested in working for the Dalit community. Rakhi serves as the party’s state vice-president and president of the woman wing.

In 2005, she made headlines for kissing her co-star Kainaaz Pervezz at the premiere of the film ‘khamoshh.. Khauf ki raat,’ Later in 2006, singer Mika Singh tried to kiss her forcibly at her 35th birthday celebration. She filed a molestation case against him. In 2008, her ex-boyfriend Abhishek Avasthi was slapped in public who verbally abused her. Later, during her reality show called ‘Rakhi ka Insaaf’ a FIR was filed against her and 4 others following the death of a Dalit youth.
