Early Life and Family
Supriya Pathak was born on January 7, 196. Her mother is Dina Pathak, a Kathiyawadi Gujarati theatre performer and legendary actress. And her father is Baldev Pathak, a Punjabi father, and dressmaker for Rajesh Khanna and Dilip Kumar.
Ratna Pathak, her older sister, is also a theatrical performer and a film actress. She went to J. B. Vachha High School in Dadar, Mumbai. Supriya grew up in the Parsi Colony. She graduated from the University of Mumbai’s Nalanda Dance Research Centre with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art, with a focus on Bharatanatyam.
Career of Supriya Pathak
Supriya Pathak began her professional career under the tutelage of her mother, who directed the play “Maina Gurjari.” The play’s plot was inspired by “Moliere,” a French playwright. The play was performed at Prithvi Theatre.
Supriya Pathak also acted in the 1981 film “Kalyug.” The film was based on the Hindu epic “Mahabharata.” She got a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Subhadra in the film. After that, she starred in the 1982 film “Vijeta.”
She acted in another film, “Bazaar,” in 1982, and then in “Masoom,” which was released in 1983. Supriya Pathak starred in the film “Mirch Masala” in 1985. She has, however, been in a number of films for which she has received critical recognition and accolades.
Aside from that, she appeared on television and provided outstanding performances in popular serials like “Khichri,” “Baa Bahu Aur Babay,” “Ek Mahal Ho Sapnon Ka,” and others that are worth seeing.
The most gifted actress starred in the French film “The Bengali Night” in 1988. She also appeared in the film “Raakh,” which was released in 1989.
In 1994, she and her husband Pankaj Kapur founded Grass Company, a television production house, and produced their debut serial, “Mohandas B.A.L.L.B.”
She returned to acting in 2005 with the film Sarkar, which was followed by the sequel, Sarkar Raj, in 2008. In Wake Up Sid, she played a submissive mother who tries her hardest to bridge the generation gap with her son (2009).
Her portrayal as the malevolent Dhankor Baa in 2013’s Ram-Leela was dubbed the “watershed of her career” by Filmfare magazine. Her debut Gujarati film was Carry On Kesar (2016).
Marriage and Children
Pathak married the son of a friend of her mother when she was 22. They did, however, split up after a year. She met her present husband, Pankaj Kapur, in 1986 while filming Sagar Sarhadi’s unreleased film Agla Mausam.
Kapur was previously married to Neelima Azeem, a Kathak dancer, and actress, with whom he had a son, actor Shahid Kapoor. They married in 1988 after a two-year romance, and they now have a daughter and a son. Sanah (b. 1990) made her acting debut in the film Shaandaar (2015).
Her nephews are actors Imaad Shah and Vivaan Shah, sons of Ratna Pathak and Naseeruddin Shah.
