Yashpal Sharma’s father’s name is Prem Chand Sharma whereas, his mother’s name is Pratibha Sharma. Ghanshyam Sharma is his elder brother.

If we talk about his relationship status, then he is married to Renu Sharma. This couple has one son whose name is Chirag Sharma and has two daughters whose names are Pooja Sharma and Preeti Sharma.

Chetan Sharma, a former Indian cricketer is his nephew.


As a Cricketer

In 1972, he had first scored 260 runs for Punjab schools against Jammu & Kashmir Schools. Then, within 2 years he got selected for Punjab’s state team. Not only this, but he was also a member of the North Zone team that won the Vizzy Trophy. He had played many matches for Punjab vs other states. One day, a legendary actor Dilip Kumar came to see his match and also chats as well as congratulated Yashpal Sharma for his century. He also said that he will recommend Yashpal’s name to someone.

Dilip has recommended his name to a prominent cricket administrator named ‘Raj Singh Dungarpur’. This was the time when his life changed completely as he had started playing for India.

In 1978 Yashpal Sharma made his International debut for India on the tour of Pakistan. In this match, he scored 99 runs. In 1979 he became a part of the Indian squad for the Cricket world cup. But, he did not play any World Cup games. Since that time, he had played many matches for India.

As an Umpire

Yashpal was also the Umpire. From 2003 to 2006, he served as an Indian national selector. Then, from 2008 to 2011 he again became the National selector from India. In 2014, he became the head of Delhi’s cricket advisory committee.
