Pankaj Tripathi is a famous Indian actor who appears predominantly in Hindi films and web series. He first debuted in 2004 with a minor role in Run and Omkar. Afterward, he has worked in more than 60 films and 60 television shows. Tripathi’s breakthrough came in 2012 with his antagonistic role in the Gangs of Wasseypur film series. Moreover, he has established himself as one of the finest Indian actors.

Early life, family and education of Pankaj Tripathi

Pankaj Tripathi was born on 5 September 1976. He also belongs to a Sanatani Hindu Brahmin family. His birthplace is Belsanda village in Gopalganj District in the Indian state of Bihar. Moreover, his parents’ names are Pandit Benares Tripathi and Hemwanti Tripathi. Pankaj is also the youngest of their four children. Pankaj’s father, Benaras Tripathi, works as a farmer and priest. Pankaj also worked as a farmer with his father until he was in the 11th standard. 

Moreover, during festive seasons, he used to play the role of a girl in his village’s kayak. Also, his roleplay was very appreciated by the villager. The villagers then encouraged him to make a career out of acting. 

Career

Early acting career

Afterward, he moved to Patna after high school, where he studied at the Institute of Hotel Management, Hajipur. He also did theatre and was active in college politics. Out of fear of failure in acting, he also worked briefly at Maurya hotel in Patna. His ideal was Manoj Bajpai, who had left his slippers with Pankaj Tripathi. After seven years in Patna, he moved to Delhi to enroll in the National School of Drama, from where he graduated in 2004.

Sparkling opportunities

After graduating from the National School of Drama, Pankaj Tripathi moved to Mumbai in 2004. Firstly, he played the role of a politician in the Tata Tea advertisement. Then he performed an uncredited role in the film Run. However, in 2012, he appeared in the spotlight when widely applauded for his role in Gangs of Wasseypur. Also, his audition for the film went on for approximately eight hours. 

His acting on spotlight

Afterward, in 2008, Pankaj appeared in the Bahubali TV series. Also, this show was followed by Powder on Sony TV. However, at first, he mainly played negative roles and became synonymous with gangster characters. Afterward, he played various roles and won critical appraisals for the same. His first film as a lead actor was the 2017 film Gurgaon.

His 2017 film Newton was India’s official entry for the Academy Award in the best foreign film category. He also appeared in the movie Dilwale as a supporting actor. Also, he is a part of the movie 83, which is based on Kapil Dev. Recently, he was a part of the movie Mimi, which received much appreciation. 

Pankaj Tripathi made his debut in Tamil cinema with Kaala, released on 7 June 2018. He also appeared in the 2018 web series Mirzapur and Mirzapur season 2. This show was aired on Amazon Prime. Afterward, he appeared in the 2019 web series Sacred Games, available on Netflix. Moreover, now he is going to appear in the movie Bachchan Pandey.

Personal Life of Pankaj

Pankaj and his wife, Mridula, have been married for 14 years and are parents to a young daughter. They got married on 15 January 2005. Moreover, their real-life love story is more powerful and heartwarming than even classic romantic movies.

  • Pankaj Tripathi’s father is a farmer and also a very religious person.
  • In his early education days, he joined RSS and started visiting its “Shakhas.”
  • He wasn’t aware of films till the 10th standard because of not having a TV, and the nearest theatre was around 20 km away from his village.
  • Also, he inclined towards acting in his childhood, and from the age of 12-14 years, he started to perform as a ‘girl artist’ at the “Chhath Festival” in his village.
  • After getting his primary education, his father sent him to Patna.
  • Pankaj’s father wanted him to become a Doctor.
  • While studying in Patna, he joined ABVP and participated in Student Movements.
  • He was also good at sports and represented his college in High Jump and 100-meter-sprint.
